Our goal is to make this the most enjoyable, easy, and safe experience you can have racing go-karts. That said, we're sure you have a few questions.
Below are the answers to some of the most popular questions we get asked.
If we get any others, we'll be sure to update this. You can also feel free to contact us if there is anything specific you want to ask us!
A. This is probably one of the most popular questions we receive. There are not many requirements, however, we do like participants to be interested in getting into racing, getting back into racing, or experiencing racing. These are not rental karts, they are full race karts, so some exposure and/or experience with other forms of motorsports and/or experience on indoor karts (such as the programs offered by Victory Lane Karting, etc) is preferred and recommended. We may limit the days or even the facility you can run your sessions on based on driver experience as certain tracks on certain days/times would not be suitable for brand new drivers. Gear for kids is also tricky due to size variations, so we typically only have gear on-hand for Junior and Senior drivers. That said, the age breakdown for each class is below. Keep in mind our arrive and drive programs start at the cadet level. Coaching/Consulting for drivers with their own equipment can be done at any age...
A. Another popular question! The answer really depends on what you are at the track for. If you are participating in a practice/open track day with us, we would recommend some snacks and hydrating drinks as it can be warm, even in non-summer months. Race days are generally longer days, so a breakfast/lunch option in addition to snacks and drinks is recommended. When possible we will typically have a cooler with water available. You may also want to bring some chairs. We typically have some, but if you have folks coming with you it's never a bad idea to bring a few extras, just in case. If you will be using our race gear then really the only thing you'd need to worry about is close-toed shoes (we highly recommend sneakers) and long jeans. Those are track requirements at pretty much every facility. We will have the rest of the gear for you as needed (Junior/Senior racers only).
A. For open/practice days we recommend getting to the track at least 15 minutes before your "start" time. You will need to complete some paperwork for the track as well as for Kart Carolina. After that, you'll want to settle into the pit area, get geared up, and get comfortable in the kart. For race days we recommend arriving at least an hour before the races start... possibly even earlier. Unlike practice days where there is no schedule, race days do follow a strict schedule for each session and require registration check-in, so late arrival may mean missing an early warm-up session.
A. Well, there's no height requirement, but we do try to set up the karts to a pretty standard configuration that will fit a majority of drivers. There are some size restrictions as kart adjustments are limited by the frame size, so feel free to contact us before booking an arrive and drive. If you book directly before contacting us we will follow up with a questionnaire confirming the drivers size and experience level (if any). Should it be determined you will not fit in a kart, we will process a full refund within 3 business days.
A. That is kind of a trick question. The karts are capable of around 70-80+mph top speeds, however, most of the track configurations tend to see speeds top out between 55-65mph with up to 1g's (g-force) in some of the turns. Cadet karts are about 5-10mph slower.
A. Great question! There is no concrete answer, but we can say that for practice/track experiences it will depend on how busy the track is. You'll run in sessions that are generally 10-20 minutes long (again, depending on track volume) so in theory, for every 1 hour at the track you'll potentially see 30-50 minutes of track time. Intro sessions will be on-track less as part of the experience involves the introduction to karting/racing that we conduct. Track time also varies by driver and how many breaks they take. It gets tiring out there! Race days are different in they have a set schedule with sessions spread throughout the day for your class. Typically a race day has 4-6 sessions of varying lengths depending on the event schedule. Kid Karts generally run a slightly shorter schedule to make sure it is not too long of a day for the younger racers.
A. Upon arrival at the track you will sign a waiver before even entering the facility. Kart Carolina requires a waiver to be signed as well prior to scheduling your event (anyone under 18 will also need a parent/guardian signature). Kart Carolina does offer insurance options as far as the equipment goes. This is not required, however, it is suggested as contact may happen, especially on race days, and the insurance for the equipment can really limit your liability and save money should anything occur. Details and pricing are available on the EXPERIENCE pages.
A. Kart Carolina experiences are pre-paid and the only time we will reschedule is if there is inclement weather. If you arrive late to a session there will not be a time refund, however, if we do not have a commitment immediately following yours will make sure you get a full experience! Should any damage occur that results in the inability for the kart to continue and a backup kart is not available, it will be handled on a case by case basis depending on the incident details. This is very rare though. If you are a consulting/support client, experiences are rain or shine, so we would be there to support you during the event regardless.
A. Kart Carolina experiences are pre-paid in full and require a credit card to schedule. You may book online through the EXPERIENCE pages or by contacting us directly. Once you hit "Preferred" status you will have the option to pay cash instead of using a credit card. That said a valid credit card will still need to be on file prior to scheduling/booking any experience regardless of status.
A. "Preferred" status is easy! Simply book and complete either three (3)TRACK experiences; two (2) RACE experiences; or any combination of three (3) track and race experiences in the same calendar year and any subsequent sessions will be booked under the "Preferred" status for the remainder of that year!
A. Glad you asked!
Priority Booking - since we limit the number of clients we will take at once, especially for race days, priority booking ensures your spot!
Loyalty Discounts - Once you are a "preferred" client you will receive up to 5% off select RACE experiences and up to 10% off select DRIVE/TRACK experiences
Free Upgrades - When available you'll be eligible for free upgrades in products or services (example: Free MyChron upgrade)
A. While most tracks do run in the rain, we do not operate any of our arrive and drive experiences in any inclement weather for safety reasons. We try to keep an eye on the forecast, so if rain is likely we will typically cancel in advance and would provide the option of rescheduling. If it rains during an event, your experience will be pro-rated based on how much of the experience has been completed. We may also reschedule experiences if track conditions are not dry or deemed safe by Kart Carolina even if current weather conditions are clear. If you are a consulting/support client, races are rain or shine, so we would be there to support you during the race day regardless.
A. They sure are! Be sure to visit our "Own" page to see what we have featured. Our full selection of available karts is available directly via our "Shop" link. In most cases we can ship to the lower 48 United States via freight. We also offer racing gear, parts, and accessories for many types of sprint racing karts (Online shop coming soon). We can also put a kart package together for you through other manufacturers or customize one of our existing available karts if you wish.
A. We do! Check out our Coaching/Consulting options as we offer several to help you learn your equipment while gaining time at the track. We even offer race day support!
